First Year Experience Scholarship
Eligible Maryland public school students who take approved classes* while in high school will no longer be charged tuition and fees and will receive required course materials at no cost. Eligible Maryland homeschooled students and students who attend a private school in Maryland can take classes at a 25% discount.
*If a course is not approved by your Maryland public school and you meet the college’s admissions and course requirements, you may request a 25% discount on tuition using the Maryland Public High School Tuition Discount Request Form.

The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) will begin evaluating information provided on the FAFSA or MSFAA after March 1. Emails will be sent directly to you from MHEC. Meeting all required deadlines is important to help secure any MHEC grants and scholarships.
The Maryland College Aid Processing System (MDCAPS) is the online system used for students to view the status of their potential state grants. In order to access this system, you must create an MDCAPS account by visiting the .
Once your account has been created you can view all required outstanding documents under Check Your Application Status. All documents must be submitted to MHEC by the required deadline as stated in the instructions.

MHEC will notify you when they have awarded you a grant or scholarship. If you fail to accept the award(s) within the allotted time frame through MDCAPS, the award will be canceled and not reinstated.
MHEC and the 51吃瓜网 financial aid office are in constant communication with updates and changes to awards throughout the school year.
Financial aid will be disbursed after course start dates, drop deadlines and after attendance has been confirmed. You also must meet all eligibility requirements as notified by our office and the specific requirements for each award offer.
If you plan to transfer to a four-year school, there are several transfer scholarships for which you may be eligible. If you are transferring to another school immediately, contact your new school鈥檚 financial aid and/or admissions office to learn what scholarships they may offer. Make sure you complete the FAFSA in addition to any scholarships you plan to apply for.
