Consider getting a jump start on college by knocking out a general education credit or exploring a course in your desired field.

While in high school, you’ll be able to take classes for free and get your feet wet on what college courses are like. Remember, though, your grade is part of your college transcript, so choose wisely and apply yourself! We recommend working with your admissions advisor to pick out the right classes for you.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø Courses at Meade High School

While you can take any classes that you are eligible for at any of our locations, we offer the pathway below on location at Meade High School!

Meade High School’s signature focus on homeland security is a great fit with  51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Homeland Security and Criminal Justice programs! Taking the courses below will begin a pathway to an associate degree in Homeland Security Management. Ask your high school counselor for details regarding this exciting opportunity.

Prior to spring – junior year

Students completing the Homeland Security Emergency Preparedness program at their high school and successfully complete an 51³Ô¹ÏÍø proficiency assessment earn proficiency credit for HLS-111 Introduction to Homeland Security.

Spring – junior year

On-site at Meade High School

  • ACA-100 – Student Success Seminar 
  • SOC-111 – Introduction to Sociology
  • CJS-111 – Introduction to Criminal Justice

Fall – senior year

On-site at Meade High School, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in Arnold or online

  • GEO-102 – World Regional Geography
  • HLS-211 – Intelligence Analysis and Security Management

Spring – senior year

On-site at Meade High School, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in Arnold or online


Earn College Credit at CAT-North

Students attending the Center for Applied Technology – North (CAT-North) can earn college credits by enrolling in selected AACPS Career Technology Education (CTE) programs. You then just need to successfully complete your CAT – North program, and earn a C or better on the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø college .* Grades below C will not be reflected on your 51³Ô¹ÏÍø college transcript. 

*The Childhood Development Associate (CDA) program requires a grade of "B" or better to earn proficiency credit.

Project Lead the Way

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is an Anne Arundel County Public Schools' CTE instructional program that incorporates the national standards of The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Science Standards and the International Technology Education Association. The program prepares you for further education and careers in:

Specialty courses are selected by the school and not all courses are offered at every PLTW school. For a list of required courses, contact your high school counselor. This high school completer program offers college credit. For information email Melanie Coleman at emcoleman1@aacc.edu

Early Childhood Education: Child Development Associate (CDA)

The Early Childhood Education/Child Care Services program follows the high school Child Development Associate (CDA) Program of the National Credentialing Program. The CDA is nationally transferable, most widely recognized, credible and valid credential in the Early Childhood Education field. Students may earn the CDA in center-based programs, family child care and home visitors. Students complete 120 clock hours of child development education and 480 hours of experience working directly with children in licensed facilities. In addition to industry certification, students can also earn college credit.

Food and Beverage Management: ProStart

The ProStart program introduces high school students to a variety of careers within the restaurant, food service and hospitality industry. Students will study and practice professional food preparation, preparation of international cuisines, food safety and sanitation, customer service relations, accounting, cost control and marketing, and will receive an introduction to aspects of lodging management. Students will follow the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation industry standard curriculum with the potential to earn a ProStart and ServSafe certification.
