With 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's Transfer Studies degree, you'll build your own degree that helps you meet your goals. You'll work with an academic advisor to pick the courses you need to complete your first two years at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø (and save some money in the process) and then transfer to a four-year school that offers your dream major. Transfer Studies, A.A.

The Transfer Studies, A.A. allows you to explore different subjects or concentrate on a specific course plan that will best meet your in-state (and even some out-of-state) transfer goals. This option is particularly good if you are undecided in your ultimate career direction, not sure where you'd like to eventually transfer or just looking to complete general education requirements while "testing the waters" of a particular major. No matter what brings you to Transfer Studies, the result is a well-rounded associate degree preparing you for further studies and successful career.

When should I consider Transfer Studies?

  • If you browse our credit degree programs and don't see the major you're looking for, you can customize your own program in any subject you're interested in.
  • If you want to transfer to an out-of-state school.
  • If you have already earned a lot of college credits that you want to transfer to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.
  • You need to earn an associate's degree in any field.

Is Transfer Studies the only option if I want to transfer?

No! 51³Ô¹ÏÍø has transfer degrees in over 45 majors, such as American Sign Language, Biology, Business Administration, Music, Psychology and more! These transfer degrees will prepare you to complete your bachelor's degree in that major at a four-year school. Where can I transfer?

Anywhere! The top two most popular schools students transfer to are the University of Maryland, College Park and University of Maryland Global Campus. However, over a three-year period, our students have transferred to 112 different schools in 37 states. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø has transfer partnerships with a number of schools, but you do not need to a follow one of the pre-designed transfer pathways in order to transfer. 


How do I get started?

Start by thinking about what you want do in your professional career. What major will help you achieve that goal? Once you've selected a major, then check out which four-year schools offer that program and decide which one you'd like to attend.

Not sure what to study? Talk to one of our career counselors and take general education courses that you can apply eventually to your major. If you truly can’t decide, the Undecided/General Explore major may be for you. With this option, you’ll still be on a Transfer Studies track while trying out a variety of classes to help you discover your interests. The Undecided/General Explore plan will guide you toward a degree so that you don’t waste precious time and money, and you can take up to 20 credits (about six classes) before you pick a specific major.

The General Explore option helps you:

  • Gain insights about who you are
  • Seek what you most enjoy
  • Learn about available careers
  • Discover the perfect major for you

Along the way faculty, academic advisors and career counselors to decide what you want to major in.

Not sure what four-year school you want to transfer to? Attend 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's Transfer Fair, use the Search for Majors option on  or talk to a faculty member who specializes in Transfer Studies. Next you need to make an academic plan by mapping out your coursework. An academic advisor can help you find the courses you need to take at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø to ensure a successful transfer to the four-year school of your choice.


What courses will I take at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø?

You'll take a total of 60 credits that include:

  1. Student Success Seminar (ACA-100)
  2. General education requirements (the classes everyone needs to take).
  3. At least 12 credits from one discipline (focused on whatever you've chosen to study).
  4. Elective courses (your chance to explore subjects that interest you).

How do I ensure a successful transfer?

  • Once you have your academic plan, be sure to follow it and meet regularly with your academic advisor. They'll make sure you're staying on track.
  • Remember to apply for graduation in the term in which you plan to finish your degree. Get that cap and gown ready!
  • Set calendar reminders for application deadlines for the school of your choice. Make sure you have all the documents needed to complete the application process.
