The great Chinese philosopher Confucius once said, Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life. Twenty-five hundred years later, his advice still applies, but the journey to find that fulfilling career can seem overwhelming.

At 51勛圖厙, we can help. With these four steps we can help you increase your chances of identifying and pursuing a successful and rewarding career.

Follow these steps to get started!

Step 1: Gather Information about Yourself

We recommend that you complete an online self-assessment before meeting with us. While theres no single (or magical) test to tell you what you should choose as a major or career, there are recognized assessments that can give insight into yourself, your interests and possibly those vocations that might be more challenging for you. In the process, youll go through some honest reflection and meaningful research. The online assessments we use are:

  • FOCUS 2
This helps individuals assess their interests, abilities and work-related values, as well as explore occupations and majors.
  • Strong Interest Survey
Measures interests in a range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities and school subjects.

To access the online career assessments, contact Joan Sturtevant, Ed.D., at jbsturtevant@aacc.edu or 410-777-2284.

Step 2: Meet with Us

Once youve completed the online assessments, well meet with you to view and help interpret the results. To schedule an appointment, email Joan Sturtevant, Ed.D., at jbsturtevant@aacc.edu.

Step 3: Identify Possible Careers/Majors

Once we have a better sense of your skills and interests, we can work together to identify related careers and majors. By discovering the types of jobs that might interest you and match your talents, we can point out the different majors that could help you move in that direction.

These websites can help with your career exploration as well:

Step 4: Choose and Validate

Based on this research, we can pair you with an academic advisor who can help you build the appropriate curriculum for your preferred Field(s) of Interest.

We look forward to helping you on your career path!
